DESCRIPTION:Greetings Troop 172! We are going back to Catalina Island. After all the adventure at Camp Cherry Valley in 2023\, we have decided to go back to the island. Unfortunately\, Camp Cherry Valley has closed\, so we will be attending Camp Emerald Bay  (just down the road from Camp Cherry Valley) in 2025.\n1)	When:	Week 5 Sunday July 6\, 2025 - Saturday July 12\, 2025\nDepart Tempe on Saturday July 5 and stay overnight at USS Iowa  (Port of Long Beach). Return to Tempe evening of Saturday July 12.\n2)	Who:	Troop 172 Scouts and parents/adults.\nScout requirements to attend are Second Class rank (or higher) and at least one trip to Camp Geronimo. This is a FULL week\, FAR from home. Adults must be Troop registered Leaders (YPT\, etc.)\n3)	Costs:\n1.	Camp Emerald Bay (CEB) Costs\n$1\,025 per scout and $875 per adult for CEB only. This includes the Ferry to/from Long Beach to Catalina Island and all meals at CEB for the week. Additional activities (e.g.\, Scuba Diving) have additional costs.\nNotes:\n"	We have reserved spots for 12 Scouts and 6 Adults.\n"	Adults can change-out during the week\, but ferry fees are not included.\n"	All adults must be registered as leaders (YPT\, etc.)\n2. DESCRIPTION:As we start to roll back into the 2025-2026 school year\, I am excited to kick off our scouting year with a get together at Sunsplash Water Park. Come join us on Friday\, July 25th starting at 5:00 for Night Splash. The park will be open until 10:00 PM for wave pools and waterslides. There is no need to RSVP.\nI recommend bringing a few supplies to make sure your evening at the park is maximum fun.\n\nSwim wear\nTowel\nSealed water bottle\nSunscreen\nWater shoes (flip flops are ok but water shoes are better)\nUS Coast Guard approved life jacket for kiddos under 48" tall\nSome money for food and/or drinks\n\nWe will set up camp in the covered picnic table area and make sure someone is around to keep an eye on everyone's things. SUMMARY:Troop Backpacking Trip- Milk Ranch Point
DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/troop-172-milk-ranch-point-backpacking-trip\nOVERVIEW: This is a great easy backpacking trip in the cool pines on the Mogollon Rim at 7000 ft elevation for one night. It's about 1 mile hike to the dispersed camping area where we will overlook Camp Geronimo from the top of the Rim.\nScouts will learn the basics of overnight backpacking in the woods and will carry their own gear. They will need a sturdy backpack along with good hiking shoes\, small sleeping bag\, tent (shared with your tent buddy)\, clothes\, sierra cup\, utensil\, 1 gallon of water (minimum)\, and toiletries. If you would like to borrow a backpack or any other gear\, please contact Patrick (-480-284-1187\,) or Phil (480-748-0571).\nFOOD: Well be stopping for lunch at Wendys on the way up. Please ensure your scout has money. The troop is brining dehydrated meals for dinner. Well be prepping them as a group. Well have extra stoves for any scouts that dont have one. For breakfast the troop will provide bars and fruit. The scouts should also bring trail food/snacks.\nEXAMPLE FULL PACKING LIST: https://troop811.org/resources/scout-resources/packing-lists/\nIMPORTANT: There is no water or toilets on this hike. While we will only be hiking around one mile and will have backup water\, each attendee should pack in at least one gallon of water. We'll camp at Bonito Campground and spend Saturday exploring Walnut Canyon National Monument and Lava River Cave. SUMMARY:City of Tempe Service Project - Southern & Rural
DESCRIPTION:Troop 172 partners with the City of Tempe Care 7 organization to assist home owners in danger of code violations. These homeowners are usually elderly and have limited or no support.  The city reaches out when a home owner's yard needs to be cleaned up to avoid violating city codes.  Volunteers from Troop 172 arrive\, bringing their own tools and supplies\, and perform the clean up.  These service projects usually take a small crew (2 adults and 4-6 scouts) an hour or two.  However\, the impact we have on the community is immeasurable.The latest opportunity to serve the community has opened up.  We need a minimum of two adults and up to six scouts to RSVP to complete this project.  I have scheduled the clean up date tentatively for 2-15.  If we have enough volunteers to complete the project by the end of the business day on February 6th\, I will let the city know that we have this covered.  If not\, I will need to decline this project with the hopes that we can tackle the next one.  Any adult can raise their hand and help lead this project\, you do not need to hold a troop leadership position or even be registered with Scouting America.  We simply need two adults in order to be mindful of Scouting America youth protection policies.Please RSVP as soon as possible.
