We have 14 ships and nearly 150 registrants on our initial loose headcount\, and so far 9 whaleboats committed to this event (working on getting a couple more)\, so while we're very excited by the popularity of this new event\, it'll be a juggling act. Please email me if you have any updated numbers - listing our original pre-reg numbers at the bottom of this message. We're working hard to make sure we can set up rotations that maximize training time for everyone that shows up. We're limiting this event to scouts of competing age for NorCal regattas - please no MEC-aged kids this time.Cost: $15 per person. This covers the room rental\, boat berthings\, and lunch. Please bring a check made out to SFSWA\, or pay via zelle payment to sfbay.seascouts@gmail.com. We will also collect $ for gas and add it to the $15Waiver: Please distribute  to your participants and have them complete this ASAP Minors should have it completed by a parent. Under club\, please select "Sea Scouts." This waiver is required in order to step aboard any of the BAWRA Whaleboats. Scouts will not be allowed to participate without a completed waiver on file. If they participated last year\, their waiver should be valid from last year.Location details: Parking is available for $8 in the gated marina parking lot at Pier 40A (across from Oracle Park). Enter the lot and go to the Marina office to pay for a pass that you can display in your car. Schedule: Meet on the waterfront side of the harbormaster building (by bathrooms) by 8:45 for quick intros\, and to identify coxn's. Some of you listed multiple cox'ns to train for this event\, but this year we'll ask each ship to select one for pulling training\, and if you'd like you can select an alternate for flotilla training. After that\, we will split into groups for scrambled rowing and flotilla practices\, as well as quick discussions on whaleboat safety\, racing strategies\, and training best practices. There will not be one long classroom session like there was last year.  We will spend the morning in mixed trainings\, break for lunch\, then spend the afternoon in friendly scrimmages for racing practice. Dismissal by 3:30pm Our BAWRA instructors put together some docs for your scouts to review\, linked below. Please pass on to your scouts\, especially those interested in coxn'ing. Attire: We STRONGLY encourage rowers to wear smooth gym pants - something that will slide easily across a thwart. To put it undelicately - jeans will result in a chapped bottom. Gloves are also a good idea for those who haven't built up callouses through rowing yet. Ship shirts should be worn\, and no excess jewelry.Lunch will most likely be pizza. True\, we've been meeting at V Dock in the summer\, BUT this one Wednesday\, we need to run a Beginning of the School Year parent meeting\, and that's best done at the Elks Lodge. Bring your swimsuit!All Adults! Mandatory beginning-of-school-year parent meeting. Find out the latest and greatest with Ship and the Maritime Troop and where it's going. Sign up to join in on the events and activities. Volunteer to make the most of the opportunities Scouting can provide! Adults please review the information on this page and come with your questions https://santacruzseascouts.com/get-involved/The Meeting is planned to start off in the Elks Lodge with adults and scouts\, after an introduction scouts will head out the pool for and learn some rescue skills. Have scouts that want to swim bring a swimsuit and towel. There are bathrooms and locker rooms at Elks Lodge. Those that have not passed the BSA Swim Test will need to do that. Scouts are tested and then classified as the following:Swimmers pass this test:Jump feet first into water over the head in depth. Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke\, breaststroke\, trudgen\, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim\, rest by floating.Beginners pass this test:Jump feet first into water over the head in depth\, level off\, and swim 25 feet on the surface. Stop\, turn sharply\, resume swimming and return to the starting place. Anyone who has not completed either the beginner or swimmer tests is classified as a nonswimmer.The nonswimmer area should be no more than waist to chest deep.
