DESCRIPTION:2025 Merit Badge Weekend\n\n\nOn Saturday\, August 16th and Sunday\, August 17th Troop 1 will hold our annual Merit Badge Weekend. The purpose of this event is to provide our Scouts with a concentrated opportunity (outside of summer camp) to earn multiple (2 to 4) Merit Badges as they progress in their BSA rank advancements. We also use this event to give our junior Scouts an opportunity to learn and practice the Orienteering Skills which are required to earn the rank of First Class.   \n\n\n \n\n\nIn the below survey we will gather input from our Scouts as to their preferences for this event.   There are many Merit Badge opportunities open for that weekend\, so we will be do our best to get our Scouts into their top preferences\, however due to scheduling challenges/conflicts it may not be possible to give everyone exactly what they wanted most. Online Sign-up & Permission Slip due by the October 27th\, 2025 Troop 1 meeting\nTrip Leader(s)	TBD\n\n\nBridge to Nowhere is the affectionate name of a local treasure\, an abandoned bridge on a washed-away road in the San Gabriel Mountains.  Constructed in 1936\, the arch bridge spans across the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. Youll find fun and adventure on this 10-mile round trip hike with 900 feet of elevation gain. There are several river fords on the trail\, along with opportunities to stop and swim.  The trail is mostly gradual with some rugged terrain and rock scrambling. Wading through water is unavoidable so pack appropriate footwear - hiking boots\, water shoes and a towel. Hiking poles are helpful\, too.  There are a minimum of four river crossings on the hike up the canyon. Trekking in wet shoes is not ideal\, and while it is tedious to change your footwear throughout the hike\, your feet will thank you.\n\n\nDirections: From the 210 freeway in Azusa\, take exit 40 north on Route 39. Drive 11.6 miles north\, passing the East Fork Ranger Station at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Pass reservoir and turn right on East Fork Road. After 5.2 miles\, when the road makes a sharp bend to the right\, continue straight ahead on Camp Bonita Prairie Forks Road\, sticking with the river for an additional 3/4 of a mile to the trailhead parking area.\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Crystal Cove Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:If you get excited about hiking near the ocean\, then this hike is for you.  This outing will have two treks.  4 miles for beginners and 10 miles for the more advanced.  One sign-up for both.  We will all start together\, and the intermediate crew will simply have fun for a longer period of time.

Who?	All Troop 1 Scouts / Scouters
When?	June 6th.  Meet at FCC parking lot in Class A Uniform at 7am on Saturday\, June 6th.  Return to HB in two groups.  Likely 11 AM for beginners and after lunch for the rest.  
Scouts will be dropped off at their house.
Bring?	Eat Breakfast before meeting at 7:00. Trailmix/Snacks for the beginner group and trailmix/sack lunch for the intermediate. Bring $$ for a possible stop on the way home.  10 essentials\, daypacks with camelback\, hiking poles\, Hydration pack w/water\, snack etc.
Philmont crew:  Bring full backpacks.
Food?	Trailmix/Snack & water for Beginners.  Intermediate the same but add a sack lunch.
Cost? (no cash)	$15 per person
Deadlines?	Permission/Release form by the June 1st Troop 1 meeting
Requirements?	Good Attitude and desire to learn to backpack!
