SUMMARY:Swim Test for Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:SWIM TESTS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL ADULTS AND YOUTH ATTENDING CAMP. If you cannot make it tonight\, please let me know; you will be taking your swim test upon arrival at camp. Please arrive in your swim suit\, bring a towel and change of clothes. You may also bring any googles\, ear plugs\, etc needed. \nThis year we are going to attempt taking our swim tests early in order to save time on check in day. The Troop has been kind enough to allow us to participate in their swim tests on 5/20 (Tuesday) at 7:00pm at Emmaus High School. Please use the entrance near the tennis courts. Everyone needs a swim test in order to swim in the pool or participate in lake activities. Even the "non-swimmers" need to at least be able to walk into the shallow end of the pool. Below is the requirements for each level (most of the Scouts will be either non-swimmers or beginners). They can always re-test at camp if their swimming skills improve between now and camp. If you are unable to make this date\, you can test on the first day at camp. Last year the line was long and it was hot\, so this will save us some time.\n.:Swimmer Requirements:.\nJump feet first into water over the head in depth\, level off and begin swimming. Swim\n75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke\,\nbreaststroke\, trudgen or front crawl (freestyle); then swim 25 yards using an easy\,\nresting backstroke (hands in water). The 100 yards must be completed in one swim\nwithout stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim\, rest\nby floating.\n.:Beginner Requirements:.\nJump feet first into water over the head in depth\, level off\, swim 25 feet on the surface\,\nstop\, turn sharply\, resume swimming as before\, and return to starting place.\n

SUMMARY:Iron Pigs Game & Sleepover
DESCRIPTION:SCHEDULE: \n-Gates Open: 5:45 PM\n-Pre-Game Parade: 6:15 PM\n   Please report to the top of the Capital BlueCross Lawn area in center field\, by 6:00 PM (Look for other members of our Pack; we will gather together as a Pack to walk around the field).\n   Wear your Class A for the parade (you can remove after the parade since it will be warm - wear your Pack t-shirt underneath)\n   We suggest getting here as soon as gates open at 5:45 PM.\n   (There is now a Center Field Entrance with a large parking lot behind left field as well! - If you are sleeping over\, this is the best place to park!)\n-Pinewood Derby: available when gates open at 5:45pm and into the game. Most likely through the 5th inning\n   Bring your car and race on the track!\n   Located in the TD Bank Plaza\n-Iron Pigs Game: 7:05 PM\n   Post-Game Fireworks show: approximately 5-10 minutes after the conclusion of the game\n-Post-Game Sleepover:\n   Exit the ballpark normally and re-park your cars back behind the left field portion of the ballpark in the parking lot\n   Bring your gear on-field for the sleepover!\n   Please try to refrain from bringing lawn chairs\, strollers or wagons on the field. The grass over the two-week homestand needs to be in the best shape for our players!\n   Concessions: the Lunch Pail (behind section 115) will be open for approximately 30 minutes after you enter the ballpark for the sleepover\n   Movie: Despicable Me 4 (2024)\n   Next morning: Breakfast in the Picnic Patio before exiting by 8:00 AM\n\n\nELECTRONIC TICKETS - Your tickets will be emailed to this email address shortly. We will open up remaining spots on Sunday 8/17 if you would like multiple shifts. We are selling water\, soda and pretzels.  Everything is provided by Macungie Memorial Park. We just have to pick up the pretzels each day from Philadelphia Pretzel Facotry on Tilghman St. I suggest you bring a wagon (I have one you can borrow and can be picked up in advance of your shift)\, because there are a lot of pretzels (especially Saturday) to be carried in.  More information will be sent closer to the event. The hours for each day are as follows:\n                   Friday\, August 22nd - 9am to 5pm\n                   Saturday\, August 23rd - 9am to 5pm\n                   Sunday\, August 24th -  10am to 2pm                           \n    If the park makes money so does the pack. The volunteering Scouts will also earn money in their scout accounts. Siblings are welcome. Class A or B uniforms.  As as added bonus\, the volunteer badges will allow any volunteer/family to park and enter the Wheels of Time for FREE the entire weekend!  \n     A few important notes about the shifts: If you cannot work a shift you signed up for\, it is your responsibility to find a replacement or switch shifts.  \nThe 9-11am shift on Friday and Saturday is responsible to pick up the pretzels at the Philly Pretzel Factory in Allentown and arrive for the shift around 9am.  The 10-12 shift on Sunday is responsible for picking up the pretzels because the store does not open until 10am on Sundays.  \nThe last shift on Sunday may end a little early\, please return the items to me after the shift.\n

We will begin to meet indoors at Solomon's Church. \nPopcorn sales forms and money due today!\nPlease bring your health forms if you have not already turned one in.\nSolomon's Church is located at 82 S Church St\, Macungie. Please see the map emailed out last night for parking locations and specific directions. Parking is available on both sides of the building. Please use the entrance located on the North side of the building off of Cherry Street (alley). I will be stationed there to direct you to the room you will be using. Webelos and AOLs will be in the basement which is accessed from a separate door near the Entrance (I can direct you). I will have the attendance board at the entrance so you can put your clip up before entering the building. Please note: Cherry Street is ONE WAY off of Church Street! Please use extreme caution when backing up in the parking areas. You may also park along Church Street (I believe only one side of the road has parking\, please use caution when crossing the street). You may also find parking to the North on Cedar Street. If you are able to car-pool\, that is helpful as well. Some of the parking spaces are also 2 cars deep\, so feel free to double up on parking in the church lots. It will be dark with the time change\, so bring a flashlight or use your phone light.\nPlease be respectful of the church's facilities. They allow us to use the rooms free of charge. We must make sure to clean up any messes we make and return the rooms to the same (or better than) as they were before we got there. All chairs pushed in\, all trash put in the can\, sweep if necessary (there is a manual push vacuum in the mail room if you need it)\, wipe down tables of any markers/paint glue residue\, make sure bathrooms are clean (no trash on the floor). \n

We will be going over bike safety & maintenance & completing the Bike electives for each rank.Please let me know if you are able to help at a station tonight!Stations as follows (adult volunteers needed to help at each station!) 1. The "Slow Race" (Balance & Control) - Ted AllanIronically\, the hardest thing to do on a bike is go slow. Create a narrow lane using chalk or cones. The goal is to be the last person to cross the finish line without putting a foot down or leaving the lane.The Lesson: Teaches low-speed balance and brake modulation.2. The Chain & Lube Lab (Basic Maintenance) - Chuck HutchisonKids love seeing how things work. Have a bike on a stand (or flipped upside down) and show them the drivetrain.The Lesson: How to recognize a "dry" chain (it squeaks!)\, how to apply a drop of lube\, and-the most important skill for a Cub Scout-how to put a dropped chain back on without getting too greasy.3. "The Scanning Station" (Awareness) - TBDSet up a station where the scout rides away from a leader (we can draw a chalk line on the ground). After a few yards\, the leader holds up a number of fingers or a colored card. The scout has to look back over their shoulder while maintaining a straight line and shout out what they saw.The Lesson: Teaches them how to check for traffic behind them without swerving into the middle of the road.4. Hazard Recognition - Ben BehlerLay out some "hazards" on the ground: a piece of plywood (a slick metal grate)\, some loose gravel\, a stuffed animal (a stray pet)\, and a pothole (drawn in chalk).The Lesson: Explain how to handle each. Do you ride over it? Around it? Stand up on the pedals? This is a great time to teach them to yell "Hole!" or "Gravel!" to warn riders behind them.5. The First Aid Pit Stop - TBDSince they are Scouts\, tie in a bit of "Be Prepared." Have a station with a basic first aid kit.The Lesson: How to clean a "road rash" scrape and the importance of hydration. You can even have them pack a small "saddle bag" with a snack and a bandage.We will be making mini first aid kits out of empty prescription medicine bottles (donations welcome!).6. A Quick Checklist for Your "Safety Inspection" Station - Jeremiah TittleRemember the "ABC Quick Check"-it's an easy acronym for the kids to memorize:A is for Air: Squeeze the tires; they should be firm.B is for Brakes: Squeeze the levers; they shouldn't touch the handlebars.C is for Chain/Crank: Is the chain clean? We will break up into groups so everyone gets a chance at each station. Stations will rotate every 10/15 minutes. ***Bring your bike or scooter and helmet (if you don't have one\, you can come anyways and learn the safety skills - we can share bikes too!). We will be going over bike safety & maintenance & completing the Bike electives for each rank.Please let me know if you are able to help at a station!Stations as follows:1. The "Slow Race" (Balance & Control) - Ted AllanIronically\, the hardest thing to do on a bike is go slow. Create a narrow lane using chalk or cones. The goal is to be the last person to cross the finish line without putting a foot down or leaving the lane.The Lesson: Teaches low-speed balance and brake modulation.2. "The Scanning Station" (Awareness) - Chuck HutchisonSet up a station where the scout rides away from a leader (we can draw a chalk line on the ground). After a few yards\, the leader holds up a number of fingers or a colored card. The scout has to look back over their shoulder while maintaining a straight line and shout out what they saw.The Lesson: Teaches them how to check for traffic behind them without swerving into the middle of the road.3. Hazard Recognition - Ben BehlerLay out some "hazards" on the ground: a piece of plywood (a slick metal grate)\, some loose gravel\, a stuffed animal (a stray pet)\, and a pothole (drawn in chalk).The Lesson: Explain how to handle each. Do you ride over it? Around it? Stand up on the pedals? This is a great time to teach them to yell "Hole!" or "Gravel!" to warn riders behind them.4. The First Aid Pit Stop - Geoff MackSince they are Scouts\, tie in a bit of "Be Prepared." Have a station with a basic first aid kit.The Lesson: How to clean a "road rash" scrape and the importance of hydration. You can even have them pack a small "saddle bag" with a snack and a bandage.We will be making mini first aid kits out of empty prescription medicine bottles (donations welcome!).5. A Quick Checklist for Your "Safety Inspection" Station & The Chain & Lube Lab (Basic Maintenance) - Jeremiah TittleRemember the "ABC Quick Check"-it's an easy acronym for the kids to memorize:A is for Air: Squeeze the tires; they should be firm.B is for Brakes: Squeeze the levers; they shouldn't touch the handlebars.C is for Chain/Crank: Is the chain clean? Are the pedals tight?Quick is for Quick Releases: Make sure the wheels are locked on tight.Check: Give the whole bike a quick "drop test" (bounce it from an inch off the ground) to listen for loose parts.How to recognize a "dry" chain (it squeaks!)\, how to apply a drop of lube\, and-the most important skill for a Cub Scout-how to put a dropped chain back on without getting too greasy.Helmet Safety Check - Check to make sure your helmet is the proper fit and is on properly. 6. Tie-Dying Pack T-Shirts - Becki HutchisonWe will be tie dying t-shirts. You can bring your own white cotton shirt or we will have them for purchase at $5/ea for youth and $10/ea for adults.

DESCRIPTION:**Sign up and payment due for Iron Pigs games***We will eat first (6-6:30PM) and then have the ceremony begin at 6:30PM.We will be having our end of year advancement ceremony where the Scouts advance to their next rank and receive their final awards as well as their new gear for next year. We will also have a pot-luck style picnic so please bring a dish to share!Sign up & pay at any meeting by May 13th with which uniform items your Scout will need for this event. You can use your Scout account for these purchases as well.  If you already have the new pieces of their uniform or wish to purchase them on your own\, please bring them to us no later than May 27th.If you have a sibling\, relative or friend who will be entering kindergarten next year and planning on joining Scouts\, please let me know their name and invite them (& their parents!) to join us for this event.
