True\, we've been meeting at V Dock in the summer\, BUT this one Wednesday\, we need to run a Beginning of the School Year parent meeting\, and that's best done at the Elks Lodge. Bring your swimsuit!All Adults! Mandatory beginning-of-school-year parent meeting. Find out the latest and greatest with Ship and the Maritime Troop and where it's going. Adults please review the information on this page and come with your questions https://santacruzseascouts.com/get-involved/The Meeting is planned to start off in the Elks Lodge with adults and scouts\, after an introduction scouts will head out the pool for and learn some rescue skills. Have scouts that want to swim bring a swimsuit and towel. There are bathrooms and locker rooms at Elks Lodge. Those that have not passed the BSA Swim Test will need to do that. Scouts are tested and then classified as the following:Swimmers pass this test:Jump feet first into water over the head in depth. Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke\, breaststroke\, trudgen\, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim\, rest by floating.Beginners pass this test:Jump feet first into water over the head in depth\, level off\, and swim 25 feet on the surface. Stop\, turn sharply\, resume swimming and return to the starting place. Anyone who has not completed either the beginner or swimmer tests is classified as a nonswimmer.The nonswimmer area should be no more than waist to chest deep.

DESCRIPTION:Due to night cruising we are limiting capacity and have filled our capacity. RSVPS have been turned off. Tide pooling would be less than fun but luckily we have a great replacement option.Short Capitola Cruise to watch fireworks! Meet at Vdock at 5:45 We will have food to grill\, learn how to cook & clean on our boat\, then head out around 7:00 for short cruise to Capitola Wharf for firework viewing. We are keeping the total number on the boat to 16 so RSVP to reserve your spot. $10 per person to cover food.We will postpone tidepooling till when the sand comes back.0.0 tide at 5:48\, Sunset at 6:36Explore the hole in the wall and tidepool wading at Davenport Landing Tide Pools. DESCRIPTION:Fleet Week SF is on October 10 and 11 weekend. This is an event we have been to (almost) every year.Some times we just car pool to the SF Sea Scout base at Aquatic Park (would need to contact them to check first)\, and other times we have been sailing with the Pearls to SF to be at the show\, and sleep on the boat.If going to sail\, then we would leave on Friday after school to go sleep at HMB or directly to SF where we could dock in town or Tiburon.But a good option is to anchor either at Clipper Cove which is a nice protected cove north of the Coast Guard station. Better to come in and out at High tide as on the shallow side. Other option for a good anchoring is Paradise Cove by Tiburon.We will sail back on Sunday\, and maybe first to HMB on Saturday evening.https://fleetweeksf.org/
